UNICEF - Immunization Saves Lives
-About
I was part of a wider UNICEF Papua New Guinea (PNG) campaign focused on educating families about the importance of immunising their children at different stages of their lives. PNG has one of the world's lowest immunisation coverage, leaving children vulnerable to diseases like polio, measles, and pneumonia, which can cause lifelong disability or death. The campaign aimed to raise awareness, build trust, and increase vaccination rates to save children's lives, which is a global priority for UNICEF.
I came on board to help develop an illustration style that felt respectful, grounded and real. We wanted the design to carry the weight of the message without slipping into a “cute cartoon” space that might be dismissed or not taken seriously.
Every detail mattered, from traditional clothing patterns to bilums (the woven baby carry bags) and the uniform of the UNICEF workers. The goal was for the artwork to genuinely reflect Papua New Guinea’s people and culture, and feel familiar to the communities it was created for.
The illustrations were used across pretty much everything from animated videos, booklets, event materials, billboards, merchandise and online content. I also created additional artwork for the booklet ‘Indicator of Parent-Child Interaction’ (IPCI) User’s Manual, a resource for professionals working to support and strengthen parent-child relationships.
